The World Touring Car Cup will see the World Touring Car Championship merge with and adopt the regulations of the TCR International Series. The decision to merge the series was made in light of the declining interest in the TC1 regulations used by the World Touring Car Championship and the growing interest among manufacturers in the TCR class of touring cars.
In adopting TCR International regulations, the new series will have a "World Cup" status as opposed to a "World Championship" one as manufacturers will not be permitted to enter cars directly. wikipedia
